Northeastern University built the Storywell app as a Free app. This SYSTEM is provided by Northeastern University at no cost as part of a research study. The use of this System is voluntary and participants of this study may stop their participation at any time.

The use of the System by adult caregivers and children requires (1) the caregiver’s written consent and (2) the child(ren)’s verbal assent as mandated by Northeastern University’s Institutional Review Board (protocol #16-05-07). If you are aware of individuals who have used the System without providing written consent, please contact us so that we will be able to do necessary actions.

Adults and Children’s Information Collection and Privacy

The System will collect your personal data during you and your child(ren)’s participation in the study. We will use this information to enhance your experience with the System and to understand how technology can help families be physically active.

The System will capture and store the following Data: you and your child(ren)’s (1) photos, audio and video recordings from your smartphone; (2) you and your child(ren)’s physical activity data captured from wearable devices, and (3) your smartphone’s geo-location. The Data collection will begin at the start of your study participation and end at the conclusion of your study participation.

These Data will be anonymized and will not be linked to your personally identifiable information such as your name, your child(ren), address, or phone numbers. The Data will be stored in password-protected computers. Access to these Data will be limited to your family and research staff under the aforementioned IRB protocol.

Log Data

We want to inform you that whenever you use our System, in a case of an error in the app we collect data and information (through third-party products) on your phone called Log Data. This Log Data may include information such as your device Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app when utilizing our System, the time and date of your use of the System, and other statistics.

Service Providers

We may employ third-party companies and individuals due to the following reasons:

  • To facilitate our Service;
  • To provide the Service on our behalf;
  • To perform Service-related services; or
  • To assist us in analyzing how our Service is used.

We want to inform users of this Service that these third parties have access to your Personal Information. The reason is to perform the tasks assigned to them on our behalf. However, they are obligated not to disclose or use the information for any other purpose.

Security

We value your trust in providing us your Personal Information, thus we are striving to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it. But remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
